USTDA for Algerian-American partnerships in economic development

 The visit to Algeria by a senior official of the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) last June, is part of US efforts to « build partnerships with Algerians in the field of development economic ».

USTDA’s Regional Energy Sector Director for East Asia, Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Eurasia Carl B. Kress had made a working visit to Algeria from June 26 to June 28, 2019, during which he met the Sonatrach and Sonelgaz groups, according to a statement from the US embassy in Algeria.

The CEO of the national oil company, Rachid Hachichi, had received Kress as part of the organization of a reverse trade mission to the United States to « put Sonatrach’s executives in touch with US companies with equipment, services and technologies that can support Algeria’s energy development goals, « said the same source.

Mr. Kress was also received by Sonelgaz’s CEO, Chaher Boulakhras, as part of the « prosecution of work on technical collaboration between the two institutions ».

Under an agreement signed during Kress’ last visit to Algeria, the USTDA had financed management, leadership and business training for senior executives and senior executives of the Sonelgaz group. This training was provided by General Electric.

During his stay in Algeria, the US official also met with the board of directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Algiers to discuss « the best way to promote economic partnership between the United States and Algeria. »

« The US government hopes that such partnerships between the United States and Algeria will have a significant, positive and long-term impact on the economic growth of both countries, » the statement said.

USTDA supports infrastructure development, job creation, technology transfer and market-oriented reforms.

It also supports feasibility studies tailored to the needs of the Algerian authorities by encouraging US companies to bid for projects in Algeria, said the source.
